One of the first things I tell students in my writing classes is not to use text shorthand in their papers.
I don’t berate them for using it, just not in the class.
It’s our first lesson about audience and purpose.
And it’s something we all have to remember.
Texting is okay. So is writing formally. How you approach which form to use depends on your audience.
Jezebel reports on a study that shows college students know the difference between texting and “real” writing. In their papers, only a few students used common texting words compared to proper grammar.
See society isn’t completely crumbling at its seams, only partly.
