Most us get one of these every day. Or have the option to get one.
We give it one glance and throw it away. Yet it could be a new publishing opportunity.
What is it?
The co-founder of Twitter and the CEO of Square, Jack Dorsey, has called it a new type of “publishing medium.”
“All of you give these receipts out by the thousands if not millions every single day — how do you make them viable unto themselves?” he said.
Dorsey is mainly focused on digital receipts as a new communication tool for businesses, but what if they could contain literature too? A story sponsored by your recent latte purchase? Or even more, what about a serialized story with parts of it available for people that purchase something that month?
In that respect, it doesn’t sound that different than ads in a magazine for the stories you’re interested. It’s just that you’re buying the “ad” (latte) first instead of the “magazine” (story).
Yeah, it sounds crazy.
But then you see stuff like this doughnut receipt with a Mitch Hedberg quote.
How is the receipt any different?
